Grandparents visit Mrs. Hottle's Class at South Middle School

Students in Mrs. Hottle's language arts classes invited a few grandparents to visit the class. The students interviewed the older generation and took notes on a variety of subjects.
The grandparents talked about jobs they've had, how school has changed since they were students, what Greenville was like in their childhood, and national events from their lives.
The participants were Honorable James Buchy, Raymond Smith, Tom Engelken, Elee LaFayette,Vicki Mayo, and Earl Curry.

“BUG” or Being Unusually Good Awards

“Students Recognized at the Junior High and South for Positive Behavior”

Jody Flommersfeld, Guidance Counselor at Greenville Junior High, leads the BUG or Being Unusually Good Program at GJHS. A student who is caught being unusually good, something beyond the normal routine of the school day, can be nominated by his or her teacher to receive the award. Don’s Pizza is a proud sponsor of the BUG Awards, and Greenville Junior High thanks them for their generosity. South Middle School, under the direction of Tiffany Fine, also added the BUG Award program for the 2010-2011 school year. Both Greenville Junior High and South Middle School strive to recognize and reinforce positive behavior of students. The BUG Award program is an excellent way for us to reward students for displaying positive behavior. Included in the photos are pictures of the bulletin board at South Middle School as well as photos of the award and pictures of award winners. Again, special thanks to Jody Flommersfeld, Don’s Pizza, and Tiffany Fine for all of their efforts with recognizing our students. GTI Gives Back to South Middle School

Greenville Technology helps add Pride/Greenies to South Middle School

Greenville Technology and South Middle School have a proud partnership in Education. As part of the partnership, Greenville Technology provides workers every other month to help with various projects in and around the school. This past month: GTI painted Greenies in various locations to add color/pride to the school, trimmed hedges, pulled weeds, made copies for teachers, helped with recycling, worked with a teacher to create a bulletin board, helped create student awards, and worked on binding books. Special thanks to Tiffany Fine and her husband for their efforts in working on the bulletin boards with the workers. GTI has been involved in various projects throughout the school in the past. South Middle School and Greenville City Schools are proud to have them as a Partner in Education. Greenville NJROTC take 2nd at Northmont

Congratulations to Greenville's NJROTC students for placing 2nd overall in the Northmont Drill meet on Saturday. The group competed against 12 other schools from as far north as Chicago and as far south as Wheeling, West Virginia. Scoring second place finishes were the Armed Drill Team commanded by Cody Boyd, Unarmed Drill Team commanded by Chelsea Buzard, Academic Team commanded by Jeff Jones, Physical Fitness Team commanded by Chris Fenstermaker, and the Marksmanship Team commanded Joey Adams. The Color Guard scored a fourth place finish and was commanded by Jessica Bowers and the Personnel Inspection Team commanded by Chelsea Buzard placed 5th. The NJROTC earned a total of six trophies in their first drill competition of the season.

JH Cross Country Competes at the GWOC Meet

The Junior High Cross Country Teams finished a great season Saturday at the GWOC Conference meet held at Lebanon.~ The girls' team finish 2nd overall in the North Division.~ Receiving medals for the team were Chloe McKinney finishing 2nd overall with a time of 12:47 her PR, Ally Hayes was 5th with a PR of 13:11, Zoe Steifel was 9th with a PR of 13:24, Chloe Menning was 20th with a PR of 13:56, and rounding out the scorers for the team~was Hannah Coakley placing 23rd and a PR time of 14:12 also with PRs and running for the Wave on Saturday were Michaela Colby placing 29th with a 13:35, ~Monica Laachmann placing 33rd with a 14:44, and rounding out a great team effort was Kelly Snyder placing 53rd and a time of 16:18.~ The boys team also had a great team effort on Saturday.~ Receiving a medal was Krutant Mehta placing 20t h with a PR time of 13:00 and the other scorers for the team were Jacob Hounshell placing 27th with a PR time of 13:28, Taylor Day was 33rd with a PR time of 13:44, Carson Bruner was 39th with a PR time of 14:08 and rounding out the team's effort was Dylan Hackney placing 46th running a 14:48.~ Way to go Wave Cross Country Runners!

7th Grade Volleyball

7th Grade Volleyball
Last Thursday the seventh grade Lady Wave volleyball team ended their season with a home game against Vandalia-Morton. They played a good match but couldn’t pull off a win. They were defeated by the scores of 20-25 and 18-25. On Saturday the Lady Wave traveled to Piqua for the GWOC tournament. They played Lebanon-Maroon in the first round and during the first game things were looking promising for the Lady Wave. They won the first game by the score of 25-17. During the second game they had the lead but couldn’t hold on and lost by the score of 15-25. It came down to the third game for the Lady Wave to see if they were going to advance on in the tournament. The team stayed positive and played hard but ended up losing to a tough Lebanon team by the score of 17-25.

The eighth grade Lady Wave volleyball team defeated Vandalia Morton 25-9 and 25-14 Thursday night. Kimmy Martin led the Wave with 13 points, nine aces, two kills and six assists. Nicole Elifritz added two kills and four assists. Casie Breen added ten points with three aces. Alyssa Baumgardner and Dannielle Liebherr each had two kills. Holly Cameron, Ashley Freeman, Courtney Ketzel and Madison Bixler each added one. The Wave ended the GWOC regular season 8-7.

On Saturday the eighth grade volleyball team played in the GWOC gold tournament in Centerville. The Wave started the day with a two-set win over Miamisburg 25-17 and 25-22. Tanika Ray led the Wave with ten aces, 13 points, a kill and a block. Alyssa Baumgardner added seven aces and eight points. Kimmy Martin added five aces and three assists. Holly Cameron added three kills. In the second round, Greenville was defeated by the #2 team in the South division, Lebanon White, 15-25, 25-19, 6-25. Casie Breen led the Wave with six aces and ten points. Kimmy Martin added three aces and five points. Courtney Ketzel and Ashley Freeman each had two kills. Lindy Cummings and Tanika Ray each added two aces. The Lady Wave finished the season 9-8 in the GWOC. They had many close and exciting games this season. Great job Lady Wave eighth grade!
