Greenville NJROTC tours Fort Knox Army Base Eighteen Cadets and three chaperones from Greenville High School’s Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (NJROTC) made the four hour trip to Fort Knox, Kentucky to tour base facilities and view how army soldiers train. The students had a chance to talk to Army Drill Instructors on life as an army recruit. The Cadets also received briefs and tours of the army’s Bradley Fighting vehicle, STRYKER all terrain troop transport and the HMMVEE multipurpose vehicle. The Cadets also were given the opportunity to operate the Army’s Main Battle Tank the M-1 Abrahams in Fort Knox’s state of the art simulator. The Cadets divided into teams of four taking the positions of commander, driver, loader, and gunner and with the help of army instructors entered a simulated battlefield. The Cadets also had an opportunity to drive a simulated armored HMMVEE with a driver and gunner on a simulated battlefield. The day ended with students firing simulated M-16’s, M-240 and the M-249 on the Army’s combat engagement range simulator. The students also had a chance to eat at an Army dining facility for lunch. The trip was sponsored by the Greenville NJROTC Booster Organization.
