GHS Musicians Perform at Versailles High High School For the Musical "Peter Pan"

On April 24, 25, and 26, several GHS musicians and directors, played in the pit orchestra for Versailles High School's musical "Peter Pan". Our musicians joined other adult musicians and two VHS students to comprise an orchestra of eighteen members strong (which is a rather large pit orchestra). The group, along with the VHS cast, performed for four sold out shows, receiving many accolades from those in attendance and on stage. The total production of Peter Pan included 52 student actor/singers in addition to the pit. Over 100 individuals took part in making this production a success, which included Peter Pan and the Darling children flying! Our GHS student musicians were excited to take part in this unique and exciting experience and really enjoyed the bond created with the VHS students. The musical director was Robin Brown, who has taught fourth grade in Versailles for 35 successful years. Mr. McKibben was thrilled at how outstanding our GHS musicians and the entire orchestra played and loved directing such a well supported and outstanding production!

1st Graders Perform Spring Musical

Greenville Junior High Band Students Attend Solo and Ensemble Contest

On Saturday, April 12, 2014, members of the Greenville Junior High School Band attended the Ohio Music Education Association’s District XI Solo and Ensemble Contest.   All students participated on a volunteer basis and did extremely well.   The students were adjudicated on a rating scale from 1 to 5 in which 1 is the highest rating.   Overall the students returned to G.J.H.S. earning 14 “I” ratings and 7 “2” ratings.  

The following soloists received a “1” rating:     Aubrianna Shields, Chloie Graves, Max Onkst, Madison Baker, Jordan Miller, Shelby Herrmann, Lauren Dull, Shawna Osborne, and Brandon Kolb.

Ensembles receiving a “1” rating were :8^th Grade Brass Trio, 7^th Grade Saxophone Trio, 8^th Grade Woodwind Trio, 7^th Grade Flute Quartet, 7^th/8^th grade snare drum trio.    

The following soloists receiving a “2” rating were:  Anna Manges, Tyler Clark, Aaron Buchy, Mariah Nicholas, and Garrett Hartle.   Ensemble receiving a “2” rating were:  8^th grade woodwind quartet, 7^th grade trumpet trio.

President Dani Marker expresses “opportunities are endless in Medical Tech Prep!” Four weeks out of our senior year, every student has the chance to job shadow in almost every desired career. Our instructor, Emily Powers, has done her absolute best to have us experience four different areas whether they are in the medical field or not. One could find us exploring any career from the hospital setting, to the police station, to a veterinarian’s office. This helps us figure out which occupations we may want to pursue or maybe even a job that do not suit us as well as another could. These rotations are very significant to us as individuals, especially when we all came into this program with little idea of what we wanted to do after graduation. Vice president, Shelby Cassity states, “coming into Med Tech my junior year I was never one to like the blood and guts, now that I have gone through rotations I have realized that being a critical care nurse is my calling”. Powers has created professional relationships with area healthcare workers to provide them with quality opportunities.  Powers adds, “The purpose of the rotations is for students to explore careers they are interested in, hopefully these experiences lead them to make a decision about their future”.  Now, after our exposure, we are all leaving with more experience, confidence, and a plan to start the next chapter of our lives.

Masso- Rivetti Selected

Francesca (Cella) Masso-Rivetti has been selected by The Ohio Academy of Science to exhibit at State Science Day on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at The Ohio State University.
